Oklahoma City, OK – Today, Jon Echols, the frontrunner for the Oklahoma Attorney General’s race, received the Defender of Freedom Award from the National Rifle Association (NRA). The award was presented in recognition of Jon’s work to pass constitutional carry and his twelve-year commitment to our 2nd Amendment rights in the State House.
Echols was Majority Floor Leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2019 and was the lead sponsor of Oklahoma’s constitutional carry legislation. He also had an A+ rating with the NRA during his time in the legislature.
Mark Vaughan, the 1st Vice-President of the NRA and President of the Oklahoma Rifle Association, presented the award. “Jon Echols is a proven defender of our 2nd Amendment and has earned this award for his tireless efforts in the Oklahoma Legislature,” Vaughan said. “Jon was the leading voice that got constitutional carry passed in Oklahoma and he has shown time and again that his support for our freedom isn’t just rhetoric; it is backed by action.“

Jon Echols is a 5th-generation Oklahoman, an accomplished attorney, a small business owner, and is the former Majority Floor Leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Holding the title for 8 years, he is the longest-serving Floor Leader in Oklahoma history.
